Operational Excellence Champion




As a multi-industrial leader, Galp is committed to delivering on financial, sustainability, diversity, and inclusion objectives. Delivering on these targets requires a significant uplift in our Operational Excellence practices and the rapid embracing of digital techniques.

The Galp Industry 4.0 transformation has started to combine digital, lean, and six sigma approaches and our first pilots are starting to demonstrate how we can improve our processes, skills, culture, and technology to deliver a better customer experience, increase our internal productivity and meet our sustainability goals.

We are now looking to build a team to bring this new approach to Operational Excellence to our global plant network.

The Operational Excellence resides within the Operational & Digital Excellence organization and drives our transformation to Industry 4.0 Operational Excellence across our Production & Operations business units.

The Operational Excellence Champions will be crucial in delivering the first continuous improvement program at Sines’ refinery, implementing best practices for Galp’s approach to Industry 4.0 transformation across people, processes & technologies.





  • Work closely with maintenance, supply-chain, scheduling, or other areas at Sines refinery, helping to define and implement the Operational Excellence roadmap and delivering continuous improvement programs.
  • Support and coach teams on Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement processes.
  • Learn how to host and deliver effective Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement Workshops.
  • Identify and quantify business performance baseline and continuously track and monitor its evolution.
  • Assess operational maturity of a process and leverage and challenge teams’ know-how and improvement suggestions.
  • Facilitate, maintain, and share a Lessons Learnt record, on both traditional and digital initiatives, while liaising with action owners to maintain actions’ momentum and close tasks.
  • When appropriate, implement new techniques and technologies to drive improvements and ensure the enhancement of continued results.
  • Occasionally, it might be required to analyse new businesses’ processes or site infrastructures to identify gaps in service/procedures, focusing both on short-term performance and long-term strategic objectives.
  • Support and be an advocate in the organization of the Industry 4.0 mindset and lean culture.
  • Identify, develop standard methodologies, and help businesses to implement external and internal best practices.
  • Assist in gap analysis and evaluation of workflows across integrated operations, regarding people, processes, and technologies.
  • Promote discipline by using data and six sigma methodologies to support decisions and change throughout the organization.





  • Degree/Masters in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business
  • Ability to communicate, synthesize and adapt to different audiences
  • Teamwork mindset and great interpersonal relationships skills
  • Willingness to learn and make things happen
  • Proficiency in the English language
  • Good expertise in Word; Excel; PowerPoint and Power BI (Power Apps is a plus)
  • Great analytical and planning capacities
  • Familiarised with lean/six sigma, kaizen, continuous improvement, digital transformation, and industry 4.0 concepts
  • Great rapport skills – know how to influence without exerting power, even when challenging the status quo
  • Good analytical skills - Fast pace thinking and challenging mentality in new or unknown processes
  • Willingness to relocate to Sines
