You will join Energy Management business unit that include the supply, trading, and dispatch of oil, biofuels, natural gas, electricity, and environmental products - both from Galp's own capital and third parties.
These operations provide greater value along Galp's integrated business chain, as they seek to proactively seize commercial opportunities, maximise the integrated margin, and navigate the dynamics and volatility of the energy market.

About your future Team 

The Digital Systems & Data team, part of Energy Management, is responsible for defining the strategic digital roadmap and supporting people and the business to grow in a sustainable, efficient, and economically viable way. Our team works across various functions, giving you both a broad overview of the activity and the necessary level of detail to deliver your developments effectively.

As a Data Scientist in our team, you will leverage historical energy data, weather patterns, economic indicators, and business insights to optimize and implement algorithms. You will contribute to forecasting markets and price trends, continuously improving alongside other Data Scientists and end-users. You will be responsible for the entire end-to-end lifecycle of the model, from proof of concept development, production deployment and maintenance, to regular presentation of results to the business.

As an integral part of the Digital team, part of your day will be dedicated to supporting team activities, which include developing and maintaining automation tools, data pipelines for internal reporting, and system parameterization. These responsibilities are ideal for individuals with a genuine interest in trading and support activities, combined with proactivity and enthusiasm to contribute to the success of the organization and its people.

How will your day-to-day look like

• Maintain and improve existing models and support tools;
• Continuously test business improvement opportunities using available data and tools;
• Compile, classify, organize, and interpret internal and external data;
• Apply business knowledge to improve algorithm outputs;
• Stay up to date with developments in data science and global energy trends that may impact trading strategies;
• Support the Digital team in daily activities such as creating automations, data pipelines, and system parameterization. 

What makes you unique

• Empathy and people-oriented mindset, fostering positive relationships;
• Interest in trading activity and support functions;
• 2 years of experience in Python with data science libraries (pandas, numpy, statsmodels, scikit-learn, etc.);
• Preference for experience with Git, MLflow, and Airflow;
• Preference for experience in time series analysis.
